Services

The World Is Watching.

We’re Eager To Serve!

Our goals are ambitious, reflecting the urgency, complexity and scope of many enormous challenges now facing immigrant families. We have organized our goals and strategies into PHASES, including the following:

PHASE ONE –

  • Legal Status and Business Plan – We are now developing the means to establish 501c3 corporate status. Ideally, a law firm will provide pro-bono services to help us accomplish this important goal. We are also creating a formal Business Plan to enable us to properly organize our project. We will post our progress in both these important areas on this website and in Social Media as soon as possible.
  • Buildings Design and Locations – One basic strategy is to partner with existing organizations, large and small, that share our primary goals. One example is IRC. Our mission is closely aligned with theirs. With our legal status and business plan in place we intend to find one or more locations in Tijuana to build one or more structures from which to deliver services.
  • Programs and Initial Construction – The excitement will surge when our designs are complete, we find and secure specific locations and build parts of one or more of our beautiful facilities. Our Founder is an experienced designer/builder who has studied all aspects of our project. We are preparing to approach a wide range of sponsor-partners, including Home Depot, IKEA, IRC, Doctors Without Borders and many more to collaborate in at least the first phases of our mission. Each may play an important role to innovate programs and support infrastructure. Very exciting, indeed!

PHASE TWO –

First-Day Partners, Sponsors and Staffing – This dynamic phase will begin by organizing a select few services offerings within a wide range of ambitious goals. The construction of at least part of our Center will attract local and globally-based service providers. With only minimal outreach and staffing we can coordinate and commence delivery of a modest range of services to new guests in a sequence easily within our control and budget. For example, if we publicize free medical exams to asylum-seeking Central American families now stranded in Tijuana, with only two staff persons and one medical services partner on site we can provide exams to scores of clients each day, while also giving them water and a safe play area for their children. If we partner with and/or receive sponsorship from others, we may also be able to deliver food and footwear. This would be an awesome beginning within a very small budget.

Growing The Organization + Donations – Continuing our mission, we will add to and expand our roster of Partners and Sponsors. Each partnership and collaboration will be chosen on the basis of controlled growth. As previously stated, the safety and security of our guests, especially the children, will always be job one. With the establishment of 501c3 status we will enable us to more robustly publicize our successes and attract tax-deductible donations. This influx of capital will support additional staff and continued expansion of our physical facility and the services we provide.

Mid-Term Status & Performance Evaluations – At this important milestone, we should be able to deliver most of our intended services to near capacity. We will evaluate our offerings and efficiencies. This may include (not necessarily in order of importance):

  • Medical Exams and simple non-surgical treatment. Also referrals to other providers.
  • Free first aid kits.
  • Food and Water that will ultimately include nutritional packages and education.
  • Bathroom and Bathing help will likely be urgently needed. Private bathrooms and showers will, little by little, be added to our services as our funding allows this important infrastructure growth and development.
  • Hygiene Kits will ultimately be offered. This may include a growing array of items commonly found in most bathrooms in the developed world.
  • Footwear and Socks. These may be dispensed along with podiatry exams and care.
  • Basic Legal Advice, targeting likely asylum application processes in Mexico and US. Not all asylum seekers will be eligible. Some may ultimately decide to settle in Mexico. We will help guide all our guests with advice and referrals on both options.
  • Employment Options and Opportunities in Mexico for adult family members who may wish to or need to remain in Mexico.
  • Networking to enable communications with family members and friends, inside and outside Mexico, and a wide range of other resources – all on on a secure encrypted platform. Privacy and anonymity will be assured to all our guests. This assurance will be extended through all our partners and affiliates, including privacy contracts.
  • Bedding materials may ultimately be added to our support as funds allow.
  • Physical Security, ultimately including professional security staff.
  • Staff Screenings will be assured. All staff will be screened to protect guest safety.
  • Brief Shelter Stays. This service is intended for stabilization, not extended shelter. We will do all we can to establish outside referrals for continuing shelter needs.
  • Culturally Relevant Arts and Education is important. Although continuing overnight stays are limited, our Omni Port Performing Arts Center will remain open to our guests upon their return, enabling a sense of well-being and continuing emotional and developmental support, thus giving each “a home away from home.”
  • Daycare may also be important. Parents may need and deserve a rest, always within sight, close at hand while their children are safe in an enriching, supervised environment.
  • Language Education may be accessible during other activities, including daycare.
  • Emotional/Psychological Therapy may also be needed and provided by professional caregiver partners, both in our Center and via our outsourced partners. This may be particularly important where Girls or Women have been sexually violated.
  • Cultural-Specific Gardening may be a plus. We will provide gardens where our guests can plant, grow and eat fruits and vegetables native to their country of origin. This will contribute to the continued use and vibrancy of our center.
  • Site-Specific Personal Security should not be overlooked. There are dangers in many locations worldwide. Each place has it’s own perils. We will do what we can to provide information and education about each. Tijuana is a new place for refugees. Mexico is a new country. Despite being a common destination, the US looms large as an entirely new experience. And the US is not always a safe place either, especially for newly-arriving immigrants. We’ll do all we can to inform and protect our guests re all these unfamiliar and potentially dangerous situations.
  • Cash! Although this may be a challenging and possibly controversial service, our donors may enable small cash assistance for our needy guests.

PHASE THREE

Optimal Fulfillment Objectives – We will continuously gauge our success by many standards that will evolve over time. These will include both qualitative and quantitative considerations, including the following:

  • Building on the Status and Performance Standards listed above, we will strive to expand services on many fronts while continuously monitoring operations and carefully measuring results in many ways. The overall goal will be to optimize all we do, measured by actual services delivered.
  • Our priorities will be: guest safety and security, confidentiality, physical well-being including basic medical care, caring/individual attention, legal information and assistance, cultural respect, educational opportunities including artistic expression and sports, childcare to give parents rest, and some overnight shelter…. in this order.
  • While mere numbers are not paramount, we will strive to grow and increase the numbers of families and children for whom we provide protection, education and enrichment. Measuring numbers of Children served is most important, but the total number of family units served is important as well.
